Diabetes Prevention

Posted by admin On August - 25 - 2009

Did you know that type 2 diabetes can be prevented in many people? While genes you inherit will influence whether or not you are going to be prone to diabetes, your diet and nutrition are considered direct causes. Therefore, behavioral and lifestyle factors are the main cause. In fact, type 2 diabetes can be attributed to four such factors: excess weight, lack of exercise, a less-than-healthy diet, and smoking.

Making a few changes can dramatically lower the chances of developing type 2 diabetes. The same changes can also lower the chances of developing heart disease and some cancers. So, let’s take a look at a few of these changes:

First and foremost you should control your weight. Excess weight is the single highest cause of type 2 diabetes. So, take a look at your diet, and make sure the foods you are eating are providing you with all the essential nutrient, minerals, vitamins, etc. that you need so that your body does not feel like it is being starved and store excess fat. A great way to get all of the important nutrients you need is to eat a diet high in raw fruits and vegetables, or to supplement the gaps in your diet with products that contain all of the necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs to function properly. One such product that is a great all natural source for all 8 essential amino acids, plus 10 more, most of the minerals you need, such as calcium, potassium, iron etc, and all the vitamins you need is in NutriMor from Synergy Worldwide—a nutritional supplement made from the incredible Moringa oleifera tree.

If you can eat properly and fill in the gaps in your current diet, either with nutrient rich foods, or a convenient supplement, your body will let go of excess weight faster, and keep you at an optimal weight.

The second thing you should do is get physical. Your body should be active several times throughout the day. Inactivity promotes type 2 diabetes, how? Well, being active decreases you chances for type 2 diabetes because working your muscles more often and making them work harder improves their ability to use insulin and absorb glucose. This puts less stress on your insulin-making cells. You do not have to get into a full on exercise regime, but increasing your amount of exercise and movement daily is important, so get up and go for a brisk walk. This is not to say that more intense exercise would not do some good. However, just small amounts of exercise have a variety of other benefits as well warding off type 2 diabetes. And even greater cardiovascular and other benefits can be attained by more, and more intense, exercise.

If you struggle with finding energy to get out there and exercise, this two can be linked to your diet, so work on making your diet a more lifestyle sustainable diet. There are two simple dietary changes you can easily implement that will have a big impact on the risk of type 2 diabetes, as well as how your body feels. The first thing you can do is choose whole grains and whole-grain products over highly processed carbohydrates. For example, white bread, white rice, mashed potatoes, donuts, bagels, and many breakfast cereals have what’s called a high glycemic index. That means they cause sustained spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels. Carbohydrates that aren’t as easily digested cause lower, slower increases in blood sugar and insulin. As a result, they stress the body’s insulin-making cells less, and help prevent type 2 diabetes. So switch from high glycemic foods to those foods that have a low glycemic index. Examples include whole wheat, brown rice, other whole grains, most beans and nuts, and whole grain breakfast cereals. The second thing you can do is to meet your body’s daily vitamin, mineral, and nutrient needs through the foods you intake. This can be done by consuming a variety of fruits, plants, legumes, nuts and seeds. For the best results, try and find plants whose minerals and vitamins are highly bioavailable, such as the Moringa leaves or the Moringa oleifera tree.

Last but not least, if you smoke, try to quit. Add type 2 diabetes to the long list of health problems linked with smoking. Smokers are 50% to 90% more likely to develop diabetes than nonsmokers, so if you are concerned with developing type 2 diabetes, cut smoking out of your daily routine. Diabetes prevention does not have to be difficult, so take these simple steps of diet improvement and supplementation, and getting more physically active, and look forward to a better, healthier life.

Cleansing Diet

Posted by admin On August - 24 - 2009

Life today seems to be moving faster and faster, there are always a million things to do, and little or no time to do them. It can be difficult to find the time to prepare healthy meals, and unfortunately, our bodies pay a heavy toll for eating unhealthy foods that are convenient. On top of a poor diet, we have to deal with stress, and the chemicals and pollutants found in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the places we work and live. As you can see, under this heavy barrage of toxins, the human body starts to slow down. So, when we are moving faster and faster, having a body that can’t keep up is not a good thing. Because we do not give our bodies what they need, and because we fill our bodies with lots of things we don’t need, your body will eventually reach a point where it is no longer capable of flushing toxic elements on its own, and they will begin to accumulate. This accumulation of toxins leads to a state of poisoning commonly referred to as toxicity.

Many people do not realize that toxicity is the cause of their health problems, and therefore they never do anything about it. Common symptoms of toxicity include headaches, fatigue, increased allergy symptoms, overall aches and pains especially in areas that collect toxins like the joints, and digestive upset including heartburn. There may be other symptoms as well, but these symptoms occur when the body is bogged down by toxins and can no longer perform necessary functions effectively.
So, first let’s look at how we get toxins, and second let’s look at some effective ways to get rid of them, and get our bodies back in a state that allows elimination. Toxins are acquired in one of two ways, by things we ingest: foods, drinks, drugs, etc.; or through external sources: the air we breathe, radiation, environmental chemicals, etc.

So, we take in toxins and this is inevitable since they are not just from what we eat. So, it is essential that we rid our bodies of the toxic build-up, and allow it to regulate the toxins itself. So, to rid the body of toxins, one must go through a detoxification program of sorts. Detoxification programs are directly related to what one consumes, or doesn’t. In fact, the most commonly known way to clean out the system is to fast for a set period of time. This is a great way to detox if you eat very few things that allow toxins you’re your body, or if you detox regularly. However, fasting can be severe and can cause problems for people who are not accustomed to the practice; many may get sick and feel horrible as vomiting and diarrhea are some of the ways the body rids itself of toxins. However, this is usually only the case when the body does a severe and intense detox. A much gentler way to help the body eliminate toxins is by eating a cleansing diet. A cleansing diet helps eliminate toxins in the body by halting the intake of toxins, and by flushing out the toxins currently in the body.

Pretty much everyone could use a good cleansing diet where they consume mainly whole grains, vegetables, fruits, pasta, rice, beans, and herbs. In a cleansing diet, the more natural the diet is, the better. Consuming vegetables in a state as close to nature as possible is the healthiest for your body. You need a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to ensure that you are getting enough of each of the eight essential amino acids, or you need to intake something that has all eight, such as Moringa oleifera, which can be purchased in regions where it grows, such as Hawaii and India, or can be purchased as an all natural drink, NutriMor.

The second aspect of a cleansing diet is helping your body eliminate its toxin stores. The easiest way to accomplish this is by drinking water. Water is excellent at flushing out toxins and restoring health. You should drink at least a gallon of water a day (drink more if you are able). It is important to eliminate sugar sodas, diet sodas, coffee, and teas that contain caffeine. If you find it hard to consume so much water, drink other natural beverages, such as NutriMor  beverage mix from Synergy Worldwide, that provide you with nutrients, and help flush your system at the same time.

Detoxifying your body holds many short and long term benefits. Immediately after detoxifying you might notice increased mental awareness, more energy, more comfortable digestion of foods, and better absorption of nutrients, as well as an overall feeling of good health. Long-term benefits can include a reduced risk of cancer, reduced risk of environmental illnesses, and reduction of chronic illnesses. So, drink NutriMor, or eat fresh fruits and vegetables, and allow your body to rejuvenate itself.

Flying Rockets!

Flying Rockets!

We flew our rockets we made in the parking lot of Mutual Dell campground. Russ Daley (our incredible scout master extraordinare) had built a compressor powered launcher with Brian Rawlings. What a launcher. Some of the paper rockets went completely out of sight! Later to return back to view. Some even exploded before they ever left the ground…great fun for all.

Making rockets

We had our family campout at Mutual Dell with our church. We made rockets with the kids. Of course it was mostly the Dad’s and Mom’s that did the taping and cutting. It was fun to watch the little kids and participate with them. Of course our rockets we built were the best! (ha, ha)

Breakfast at Mutual Dell

Campout breakfast

Our church (LDS) had its annual family campout just 10 minutes up American Fork Canyon at Mutual Dell. For breakfast the men cooked eggs, hash browns and pancakes. It was really good, even though it may look a little rustic. Everyone had fun and left full.

Dr. Nick’s home sweet home

Dr. Nick’s home sweet home

Dr. Nick lives in a provincial park in Canada. What an incredible setting. Reminded me a lot of the Seattle area…very green, lots of undergrowth and many wetlands. I can see why Nick loves living here as it is a very serene setting. And in the winter the ski resort is just down the road! It goes without saying that I try to get up to see Nick as often as possible.

Canada Meeting Crowd

We had 3 meetings in Canada. Wow, they were all incredibly well attended and run. We had them in Winnepeg, Yorkton and Saskatoon. In every meeting we had around 50 people. They were all great meetings with a lot of product and businessn training. Many new distributors too. I love going to Canada to see my friends. It is always fun and productive. Special thanks to Dr. Nick Martinuik, Nicole Ruttig, Laurie, the Asham’s (what an amazing performance we had in Winnepeg…I missed filming it!), Dianne and of course my good friend Randy Sawatsky.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi

We went to see body of Ho Chi Minh, whom they call Bac Ho (Uncle Ho or as an American might say, the Ho). They have him preserved in a monument style building where you file in quietly and see the body of Bac Ho in a glass case. There are huge lines of people who come to see his body. All of the guides were very friendly to us but still very rigid. We could not bring any cameras in so this is just the outside.

Going to church on Sunday at the LDS Vietnam branch

Steve Ostermiller and I went to the LDS (Mormon) Vietnam branch on Sunday. Finding it was one of those interesting, yet scary experiences. I was sure glad we found it! This is the only branch in Ho Chi Minh. The government allows the christian meetings but no missionary work. However there are still a lot of christians in Vietnam.

Traffic jam Hanoi style!

This small modified motorcycle with a cart attached to it tipped over. After the driver tipped it back up traffic got back underway…slowly. These are skinny roads. When it rains there is not a lot of places for the run off to go so it puddles and makes for some fun driving. And of course it is a constant sea of scooters. I love Vietnam. Loads of fun.
